Am I black with white stripes or white with black stripes? It is hard to decide but for the background for this site the decision is easy. It needs to be black.

Why? On some monitors it uses less energy and I would like people to think about their actions

CRT screens use on average 74watts of electricity for a white screen but when using black they use 59 watts

1.Switch off - Every one knows this. Get a plug strip for thing that work together so you can switch them all off at one place. If you are not using it turn it off. Here you need to think of air conditioning and heating as well. Think what is on and there is no one in the room. Remember to switch off at the wall many devises still consume electricity when they are in standby mode (at least hit the power button on the devise.)

2.Let monitor sleep (set time out) - This concept is well known in PC's but is there other devices that do the same. Rather set the the time longer than turning it off (short times can be a pain)

3.Turn down brightness - This is one of the biggest saves. Give your eyes a few minutes to get use to it. Setting contrast does not save energy so here you can do your own thing.

4.Get a smaller screen - Do you realy need that power hungry expencive big screen

5.Upgrade - There is a lot of technology that gives better results at a lower cost to the enviroment. Please do your home work here as newer is not always better when it come to power consumption and pulutants. Please see our links page for a screen comparison cite¹
